We provide annual stipends for Wayne Law students to spend the summer working as legal interns on Capitol Hill, experiencing first-hand a bipartisan approach to congressional oversight.

Summer Legal Internships in Washington, D.C.

The Levin Center for Oversight and Democracy annually provides stipends for Wayne Law students to spend the summer working as legal interns on Capitol Hill, experiencing first-hand a bipartisan approach to congressional oversight.

The students work under the supervision of an experienced attorney who is engaged in conducting oversight on behalf of a House or Senate committee. The students are able to observe the practice of congressional oversight from the inside which may include:

  1. How issues are selected
  2. How witnesses are interviewed
  3. How to prepare document requests and review documents
  4. Memo and report writing
  5. The preparation and conduct of hearings
  6. Interactions with the press
  7. Staff briefings
  8. The development of solutions to identified problems
  9. Duties may include research, writing, document management, hearing preparation and logistical support.

Pauline Cohen Endowed Internship

Pauline Cohen, a Detroit native and Wayne University graduate, was actively involved in local and national politics. A long-time precinct delegate, she also helped manage local ballot initiatives, especially in the area of education, and was selected as a delegate from Michigan for a Presidential convention. She was particularly interested in encouraging young women to become active in politics. 

Through the generous gift of Pauline Cohen’s children, Ina and Dennis Cohen, the Levin Center is honored to offer a yearly internship stipend to one Levin Center Washington, D.C. Summer intern.
